Led Lighting Conversion – After some trial and error, we finally found what (we think) are the perfect recessed LED ceiling lights! The first LEDs we ordered were WAY too bright because the glass was clear instead of frosted. Even with the dimmer, the light was shocking to the eye. Then we came across the Acegoo LED lights…
We installed 10 Acegoo Warm-White LEDs: in terms of lumens, 6-8 lights should be enough. We installed 10 to get a more uniform flash source (so when the top storage door opens we still get light from somewhere).

The LED lights are controlled by a dual-zone dimmer; the bedroom zone has 4 lights and the kitchen zone has 6 lights.

10 lights draw a total of 1.3A at 100% intensity, a total of 0.1A at minimum intensity. For information, we set the intensity to 100% for washing dishes, productive work, etc. For quiet moments, we set the intensity to about 10%.

LEDs MUST be dimmed with a suitable LED dimmer. If you’re looking for 12V, good luck! They are either super expensive or super ugly. After countless hours of research, we found the perfect combination for our cool LEDs! It’s a dual zone dimmer so we can control the bedroom/kitchen LEDs independently. The sliders feel great and stay in place as they should. The lights go out when the sliders are all the way down:

To install the LEDs, pull out the two springs and then the LEDs will “snap” into place (and can be easily removed later).
To have solid and reliable electrical connections with different wire diameters (14 AWG vs 22 AWG) we used:

As mentioned in the introduction, we first ordered the LEDs from Superbrightleds.com. Why didn’t we use them? Because they are, well… SUPER-BIGHT! The clear glass does not diffuse the light, which irritated us a lot. We also prefer the Acegoo LED spring mechanism; we feel they will hold up better and be easier to replace. Don’t get us wrong: the quality of superbrightleds.com is fine. In fact, we would definitely use them in a place where the light is not directly in our eyes (like the cargo hold). However, due to the clear glass, we would not recommend them for the living area.
