Renovate Your Interior With Minimal Disruption

Renovate Your Interior With Minimal Disruption – Our kitchen remodel is underway (!) and I can’t tell you how excited we are. But no matter our level of enthusiasm, remodeling a kitchen while you live in the house is seriously disruptive. Especially with 3 small children at home. We are currently in the no-sink or dishwasher phase of this renovation and I thought this would be a good time to explain how we are phasing this project to minimize disruption. And by ‘disruption’ I mean

Before we get to the phase, here’s a little progress report. Last week, we removed the countertops, removed the upper cabinets and refrigerator (we’re using our new refrigerator in the dining room), removed the cabinet doors and drawers for painting, and took apart the island. The stove in the middle of the kitchen is still working, at least for a few more days, but we’re trying to use it as little as possible. In fact, we are moving our kitchen operation to the grill. And luckily we have a beautiful garden to eat in. Summer is definitely the time to do a PNW kitchen makeover!

A note about last week’s post…we’re still thinking about upper cabinets. A comment from my friend Ashley led me in a whole new direction, involving pushing existing cabinets up to the ceiling and adding a shelf or rack below. I think it could be beautiful and cheap… but we’ll see. I’ll let the idea brew for a while and share later.

How Much Does It Cost To Renovate A House?

We are currently in a major effort to paint the cabinets, put in the countertops, install the sink, and get the new faucet up and running. We are calling this ‘phase 1’ of the project. And we’re in a big hurry to get it done. Because once these tasks are completed, this kitchen will be back in business. Well, sort of. We will lose range for a week or two while our new gas service is brought to the property. And our refrigerator will still be in the dining room. But honestly, those are small potatoes compared to how disruptive it is to have no sink, faucet, and cabinets. In a residential kitchen renovation, it’s not about what’s ideal, it’s about what you can do.

“In a residential kitchen renovation, it’s not about what’s ideal, it’s about what you can do.”

After completing ‘phase 1’ and installing the new gas line and stove, here’s what’s left: installing wall panels, lighting, skylights (?), butchery, flooring, upper cabinets and building the new pantry and island . Okay, that’s a pretty substantial list. Hopefully we’ll finish it in the fall!

One of my favorite parts about renovating old homes is finding unexpected things. I really didn’t expect to find anything fun in this reno since we aren’t tearing everything down and the kitchen isn’t original to the house. But when we removed the old countertops we found this cutting board. It’s a super fun custom detail that looks like it’s a century old. And yes, we will keep it!

How To Find Your Own Personal Interior Design Style

While we are in the no sink or dishwasher phase, we have been working on the dining room to prepare food and the main floor bathroom to have a sink and place to wash dishes. This is temporary and quite inconvenient, but it works. And sometimes ‘it works’ is the best thing that can happen. The key to surviving this phase of your kitchen remodel is to cook as little as possible and make a mess indoors!

Any tips for surviving a kitchen renovation? Leave them in the comments below for us (please!). Whether it’s a vacation home or a primary residence, planning a complete home renovation can be complicated, time-consuming and a little tiring. Fortunately, there are ways to mitigate the stress of a complete home renovation. Consider working with a company that specializes in home renovations and take on the entire project at once. By doing this, you can ensure minimal disruptions while still achieving continuity throughout the project. We recognize that every homeowner doesn’t have the budget to renovate their entire home at once. Some homeowners choose to renovate one room at a time. If you undertake a complete home renovation yourself, the process will be significantly different than that of a designer-managed project. In this post, we explain what a typical whole-house renovation looks like when working with a design team. Naturally, we emphasize the importance of seeking specialist advice. We’ve also outlined what a complete home renovation timeline would look like if you decide to approach the renovation process piecemeal.

Although building a new home is a very different experience from remodeling an old home, the two processes share many steps. From design and bidding to installation and final reveal, new construction and home renovations have a lot in common. See how a typical whole-home renovation project can work with LUDC as your design team.

A New York City Apartment Renovation, Inspired By Modern Hotel Design

At LUDC, we take a streamlined approach to whole-home remodeling. Our team has extensive experience in home renovations and interior design, which means we can handle the entire process from top to bottom. We manage much of the process in-house, but we also work with external partners — i.e. architects, builders, contractors and subcontractors — when necessary.

The entire home remodeling process begins like any other project: with a consultation that determines your goals for your renovated space. We get to know your family’s lifestyle and identify their hopes for the future, so we can plan ahead when designing the space.

Our designers like to ask clients to “come with us” for a day in their lives. This way, we can understand what makes a house a home for them. After all, we do this for the love of home!

Then, our team helps you set a budget, estimate a timeline, and come up with a rough whole-home renovation timeline. After determining the scope of your project, we assemble a multidisciplinary team that will manage the entire renovation of your home.

Ways To Make Your Home Look And Feel More Luxurious

At this time, we also do some site visits and commission site assessments and feasibility studies to ensure the project is viable. The design phase quickly follows, where we enhance and refine the new layout, look and feel of the home.

As we prepare to enter the construction phase, we look for the perfect partners for your project. We work alongside landscape architects, builders, electricians and other specialists. By doing this, we ensure that your home is not only stunning and perfectly suited to your lifestyle, but also safe and up to code.

Our team manages any subcontractors and external partners so you don’t have to. We take care of purchasing, furniture installation and much more. The process will be a very different experience if you decide to act as your own general contractor.

Each whole-home remodel is a little different from the next. After all, each property has a unique story and each owner has a unique taste. The challenges presented by a complete home renovation may not exist in another complete home renovation. Still, it’s important to prepare for the unexpected. If you work with a designer on your entire home renovation, many of the following steps will be guided or completely managed by them.

Tips For Your Home Design Project

The first step to starting a complete home renovation is identifying your goals for the project. Most homeowners already have an ideal of what they want to achieve in their remodeling projects. However, everyone can benefit from making a list of “must-have” items.

Are you hoping to increase your home’s resale value by updating the kitchen and bathrooms? Do you want to make the layout more suitable for a multigenerational family or ensure it is ADA compliant? Would you like to add square footage to a family home with an addition? Working with a design team will help you define all of your goals and achieve them, which brings us to Step Two.

When homeowners who are not trained as general contractors, architects or engineers try to do DIY home improvement projects, they often make costly mistakes. A complete home remodel is a huge project with many possible obstacles. Going it alone means trying to solve complex problems alone, without the connections, education, or experience to solve them.

Working with a design firm prevents you from making the costly – and possibly dangerous – mistakes that homeowners often make. A home improvement company will help you set a budget. They’ll set a schedule and tell you where to start if you’re not doing everything at once.

How To Plan Your Home Renovation + Cost Breakdown

The team will not just guide you through the planning process. They will manage the entire renovation process for you – from initial consultation to installation. Your design team will apply for permits, schedule inspections, find the right contractors, and navigate the historic planning commission if necessary. They will arrange the delivery and installation of all materials, fixtures and furniture.
